How to Get Started In Going Plastic-Free in Malyasia

EcoQueen made a pledge to go plastic-free last month. We practiced some easy steps and we think you can join in and do your part too. Here are some easy steps that you can start doing anytime.

We can’t make the change just by ourselves (and what’s the fun – if we are doing it alone). Do join us by doing your part!

Here Are 5 Easy Steps To Get You Started In Going Plastic-Free

1. Wean yourself off disposable plastics.

Ninety percent of the plastic items in our daily lives are used once and then chucked: grocery bags, plastic wrap, disposable cutlery, straws, coffee-cup lids. Take note of how often you rely on these products and replace them with reusable versions. It only takes a few times of bringing your own food containers to the office, or travel mug and metal straws to your favorite coffee store before it becomes your habit!

2. Stop buying water.

Each year, close to 20 billion plastic bottles are tossed in the trash. Carry a reusable bottle in your bag, and you’ll never be caught having to resort to buying bottled water again.

3. Bring your own bag for shopping.

Invest in a zippered fabric bag and just chuck it in the corner of your car. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? That is all it takes. It’ll just be laying there so each time you go for provisional shopping, or even to get bread and milk, you can use that bag instead of bringing home a plastic bag from the store.

4. Buy in bulk.

Single-serving yogurts, travel-size toiletries, tiny packages of nuts—consider the product-to-packaging ratio of items you tend to buy often and select the bigger container instead of buying several smaller ones over time. What’s even better is, if you can buy from eco-friendly or zero-waste stores.

5. Choose reusable products instead of disposable ones

Avoid using single-use or disposable items that may be cheaper on the onset but think about the landfills that are piling up and make the right choice. Invest a little more in a product that you can use and reuse for a longer period of time.
